The Making

Four Pillars of Zisha Craft

From raw mountain ore to a vessel that transforms every pour — a journey measured in days, guided by generations of knowledge.

01

Mining Clay

Only ore from the Huanglongshan deposit in Yixing passes our strict selection — rich in iron, silica, and alumina for optimal porosity.

02

Hand Throwing

The artisan beats the clay into even slabs by hand, then coaxes them into form without a wheel — an ancient technique unchanged for centuries.

03

Engraving

While the clay is leather-hard, the artisan carves calligraphy or landscapes with bamboo tools — each stroke deliberate, each line irreversible.

04

Firing

Fired at 1180°C in a traditional dragon kiln, the clay vitrifies into the dense, slightly textured surface that gives Zisha its legendary tea-aging properties.
